Vowels open, consonants collide. Between them, language begins to shimmer into existence. Rémi Klemensiewicz and Jung Wonmi take these smallest materials of speech and let them drift toward other lives: breath, vibration, friction, pulse, noise. A vowel sustained too long loses its promise of a word; a consonant detached from its neighbour becomes impact, texture, matter. Yet nonsense remains strangely difficult. The human ear continuously gathers fragments into possible meaning, hearing language even where language has begun to disappear. Moving between voice, instruments and machines, the performance inhabits this unstable threshold, searching for sounds that might escape the gravity of sense. At this threshold, the human voice becomes unfamiliar to itself: less a bearer of language than one sounding body among others.
Electronics, Hulusi, Ondes martenot: Rémi Klemensiewicz
Vocal: Jung Wonmi, Rémi Klemensiewicz
Jung Wonmi is a South Korean vocalist, composer, improviser and educator whose work explores the elasticity of the voice across composition, song and experimentation, drawing on poetry, painting and everyday sound. Rémi Klemensiewicz is a French artist based in Seoul, working across sound, installation, experimental music and live performance. His practice approaches sound as material, moving between language, image and different modes of perception. Their practices meet through a shared curiosity for sound and its capacity to slip between forms, meanings and materials.
