‹Schemes of an Hour› is a choreography for three dancers and a violin player, set in the indistinct hours of the evening, when the day is no longer there, yet somehow continues to linger. Neither transition nor destination, this is a time in which distinctions soften and the organisation of the day begins to lose its hold.

An hour is also a scheme: a measure through which labour, bodies and attention are organised. Here, the hour drifts away from efficiency, scheming towards another economy of time, shaped by repetition, lingering and proximity. A particular sociality takes shape, loose and without declared purpose, in which attention gathers, dissolves and gathers again.

Emmilou Rößling

Emmilou Roessling works with sculpture, choreography and text. Her work employs layers of opacity, camouflage and description as formal strategies, with a particular interest in the porousness of time and the ambiguous threshold between the dynamic and the static. Through repetition and diversion, her choreographies and sculptures fold back on themselves, redirecting attention towards the contexts in which they take place. She studied dance and choreography in Gießen and Amsterdam, and fine arts at the Städelschule Frankfurt. She lives and works in Berlin.
