Vibration has always known how to travel without a map. It enters wood and metal, passes through air, disappears into a wall and returns somewhere else as a faint alteration of the world. Across the strings of Sim Eunyong’s geomungo, Han Saembawy’s sitar and Jang Mingyu’s bass guitar, three distant genealogies become entangled in a geography without territory. Improvisation loosens the sovereignty of the hand, allowing sound to wander beyond intention and acquire unfamiliar forms of life. Frequencies brush against one another like weather systems; tones cast shadows, split, diffract and leave small climates in their wake. Resonance becomes an ecology of consequences, where nothing exists entirely by itself and every disappearance quietly rearranges what remains. At the edges of perception, sound begins to forget that it was made for listening. It persists instead as a peculiar material intelligence: temporary, porous, without centre—matter dreaming itself into duration.

Sim Eunyong × Han Saembawy × Jang Mingyu

Geomungo player Sim Eunyong, sitarist Han Saembawy and bass guitarist Jang Mingyu come together as a trio for the first time through Ob/scene Festival. All three have developed distinct practices around their instruments, moving between composition, improvisation and experimental approaches to sound. Geomungo, sitar and bass guitar have little in common beyond their strings, and it is precisely this unlikely proximity that brings them together. Without a shared musical tradition, the three instruments meet across their differences, making space for unexpected resonances and new ways of listening.
